Karachi: Interior Ministry of Provincial Government of Sindh issued a directive banning the use of Helicams for the coverage of any events in Sindh. Ministry officials confirmed that the ban was imposed on the direction of federal interior ministry because of security concerns. As the miscreant may miss-use them for their devilish intentions.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) election campaign is going on in Karachi they also hold rallies on weekly basis and their Political Gatherings are held regularly. An upcoming political Gathering of PTI which will be addressed by Imran Khan is also a concern for the Government. To ensure the security of the citizens Federal Interior Ministry directed the Sindh Interior Ministry to impose ban on the usage of Helicams. A year back Helicams gained popularity in Pakistani media Industry especially the political gatherings and rallies from eagle’s eye view were covered with the help of Helicams.
The long March of Pakistan Awami Tehreek and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also was covered by the helicams although Government imposed ban on coverage with Helicams at their sit-in at D-Chowk and other important key points in Red Zone Islamabad. in addition the Model Town Siege in Lahore and all the situation over there as was not accessible by media DSNGs at times, the helicams proved to be quiet useful at that time.
