Freedom of the Press is a relative concept varying with the shift in political balance or imbalance. Usually the effective agencies for protecting free expression are the community and the government. In a democracy the community acts by routing social conflict through ballot box and encouraging the method of discussion, the government should see that discussion and conflict are not transformed form discussion to violence.
There are many myths and legends about the freedom of the press, but on analysis.the freedom of the Press is no more than the freedom of an average citizen, or individual. It is the freedom of the society at large, and in fact it is to a large extent more restricted than the freedom of various other sections of society.
For example, those politicians who are members of parliaments have more freedom as no action can be taken for whatever they say inside parliament or on the floor of the assembly. This is an absolute privilege which an editor of newspaper does not enjoy anywhere in the world.
