World Heart Day is commemorated globally to create awareness about cardiovascular diseases. In Pakistan many medical institutes commemorate this day but for me it was a pleasant surprise to visit Tabba Heart Institute & see how the renowned cardio hospital in Karachi celebrates this day differently.

Tabba Heart Hospital organized a Free Cardiac Screening Camp on 27th September on their premises. It was a great opportunity for the citizens of Karachi to come, consult and get screened by one of the most professional team of doctors in Pakistan. Free lab tests and discounts on different services were also offered.

It seems that citizens were waiting for such an event eagerly because within the first 2 hours more than 1000 tokens were issued for visitors, indicating the success of the screening camp. It was a great experience to see people getting free medical consultation at the most prestigious cardio institute.

Another similar screening camp is also scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on 9th October which will be a great opportunity not only for the people of Hyderabad but also for citizens of adjacent districts.

Though this was the main event but Tabba Heart Institute also took many other initiatives including an awareness campaign through which blogs and video messages were posted not only on their official website but also through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Senior doctors and administration shared their opinion on social media and also appeared on leading channels and FM radio stations to educated people about the causes of heart diseases and how we can reduce the risk by a better life style and a better diet.

Other hospitals in Pakistan should also follow Tabba Heart Institute by providing such free services to the community.
