Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has issued warning to all the news channels of Pakistan for violation of rules. According to the notice issued by PEMRA, all the news channels of Pakistan have revealed identity of rape victim girl in Lahore, on 26th December 2015. In its first ever Urdu notice, PEMRA has stated that while reporting this sad incident, all the news channels have broadcasted personal and family details of victim girl, which is a clear violation of rules implemented by Supreme Court of Pakistan. Previously, ARY and Geo News have also recieved notices for broadcasting immoral remarks.
PEMRA said in its notice that news channels have reported this incident with thrill, which could be shameful for the victim and her family. It is also mentioned that the victim girl and her family would have to face embarrassment and agony just because of this act, for a long time. In order to avoid such things, PEMRA has warned to all the news channels in its notice not to broadcast such events in the same manner. If this practice will be revised in future by any channel, legal proceedings will be launched against that particular channel.
It is to be stated that PEMRA had received many complaints regarding this issue from the viewers, after which this action has been taken by the authority.
