Hamid_MirOne of the most senior and talented journalists of Pakistan, Hamid Mir is shortlisted for the 2016 Index on Censorship Freedom of Expression Awards. According to the reports of Pakistani media industry, a UK-based non-profit organization Index on Censorship has shortlisted 20 out of 400 candidates from all around the world for this award. According to the Index on Censorship, the main reason behind the nomination of senior journalist Hamid Mir is that he has showed his courage by fighting for the freedom of expression in Pakistan. Last year, Pakistani presenter Mishal Husain had won London Press Club Award.

“Hamid Mir, a television journalist whose 30-year-career has been punctuated by threats, physical assaults, abductions and assassination attempts for taking on unchallenged powers in Pakistan”, introduction by Index on Censorship.

Hamid Mir is the only journalist from Pakistan who has been nominated for this award. While in the category of Campaigning, a women-lead digital rights campaigning group Bolo Bhi is also nominated for 2016 Freedom of Expression Awards.

Hamid Mir is one of the most famous and dedicated journalists of Pakistan who have worked brilliantly for both the print and electronic media of Pakistan. He had survived from gun attack in 2014.
