He has been writing columns for Express Newspaper since many years as his Urdu column Harf-e-Raz was one of the famous columns of Express Newspaper. He is also known as a civil servant who has worked as deputy commissioner, district magistrate, managing director of Baluchistan water and sanitation authority. Orya Maqbool Jan who is also a member of National Academic Council of the Institute of Policy Studies in Islamabad has achieved award for best columnist of Pakistan in year 2001 to 2004 respectively.
The senior and eminent writer has also written famous plays for Pakistani TV such as Roazan, Gardbad, Shaharzad, Qafas and Qafla as well as he has penned several Tele-films and various plays. Orya Maqbool Jan holds Master’s degree in social work which he completed from Punjab University, Lahore and after that he also received LL.B degree from University of Balochistan.
