Daily Riasat Carrying Objectionable Ads – PID Doing Nothing
All Pakistani Newspaper are regulated and are supervised by Ministry of Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage which is most commonly known as Press Information Department (PID).
Newspapers are required to be registered and audited by Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC). Theyare responsible to audit the circulation of all registered Newspapers but is seems that they have miserably failed to fulfill their job.
On 14.02.2017 Daily Riasat Newspaper published an advertisement regarding sales of vulgar toys and other objectionable items. It was not the first time that the newspaper published such ads rather it has published the advertisement on many occasions in the same month.
Daily Riasat Karachi is part of Qaumi Akhbar Media Group which previously owned Dhoom TV. How a media group was able to publish such ads? And why government department failed to take action after repeated publications?
This indicates how unaware PID is about the material which is being published in the newspaper in Pakistan. PID should realize that its duty is not confined to issuing license and certifying the newspaper through ABC, rather it is also responsible for the content and information which is being published.
